ABOUT BIANYC
Thank you for your interest in the Building Industry Association of New York City. As a member of BIANYC, you also retain membership in the New York State Builders Association (NYSBA) (www.nysba.com) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) (www.nahb.org).
In essence you get THREE memberships for the price of ONE! These memberships ensure that your interests as a builder, remodeler or developer are addressed at the local, state and national levels. As a member, you will be kept up to date on the latest industry information, improve your bottom line, and have the opportunity to learn more than you thought possible! If you are an associate member, it is an excellent way to get involved in the industry that is your customer base.
BIANYC: A non-profit trade association first chartered in 1954, the BIANYC represents and promotes the interests and concerns of the building industry in New York City by:
- Being a pro-active participant in the legislative and
regulatory process.
- Providing education and information to the membership and
the community.
- Maintaining a positive image of the industry.
- Fostering the professional and ethical standards of our
members.
- And promoting the products and services of our members in
order to help them be more successful
The BIANYC’s goal is to be recognized as the leading advocate in
the improvement of the quality of life in our community.
NYSBA: Chartered in 1950, with the goal of ensuring that the
interests of home builders, remodelers and developers are
represented on a State level, NYSBA is your voice in Albany. Our
purpose is to not only represent your interests at the Capitol but
to also serve as a clearinghouse for industry information and
provide you with tangible programs that benefit you, your family and
your employees. The state association currently has over 4, 500
members from 17 local associations across the state covering
everywhere from Montauk to Niagara Falls.
NAHB: With over 220,000 members NAHB works toward a balanced
legislative, regulatory and judicial public policy for builders,
remodelers and developers across the nation. They also serve to
increase public appreciation for the importance of housing and those
who provide it.
The Building Industry Federation (your local, state and national
builders association) stands for all Americans having access to the
housing of their choice and the opportunity to realize the dream of
homeownership.
As a member, you benefit from lobbyists who are industry watchdogs
when it comes to issues that affect our industry. Dedicated to
protecting your government affairs interests on a full time basis;
these lobbyists work on your behalf to promote legislation
beneficial to the building industry and defeat legislation and
regulation that is detrimental to the industry as well as your
business.

newsletters featuring the latest building industry news.

so that you can be up-to-date on the latest legislative,
regulatory and code information. These publications also contain
articles with information that will enhance your business and
bottom line.
- WEBSITES-Once a member, you will have access to exclusive
industry information in the “Members Only” section of your
local, state and national websites.
BUILDING YOUR NETWORK
Members are offered exclusive opportunities to get involved in the
industry. By participating in a committee or a council, you not only
demonstrate your interest in a particular area but also can become
an instrument to implement real change in the industry.
The International Builders Show and the New York State Builders
Show: Attendees can explore the latest products from manufacturers
and suppliers in addition to attending educational sessions that
will enhance their business and provide them with the resources to
better serve the consumer.
INSURANCE/DISCOUNTED PRODUCTS
New York State Builders Management Services LLC (NYSBMS) was
established to offer members exclusive access to a wide range of
programs that help meet your business needs. You can rest assured
that with these programs, NYSBMS has done the due diligence on your
behalf and that NYSBMS is also committed to continually searching
for new programs. NYSBMS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the New
York State Builders Association.
Builders Risk Insurance: This product, covering fire, theft
of materials, vandalism and profit and property in transit, is
competitively priced with coverage being written on a home-by-home
basis, by monthly report or on a blanket basis (annual audit).
Liability Insurance: In a time when it is increasingly
difficult for builders to get insurance, one of NYSBMS’s top
priorities is to find new sources of Liability Coverage for BIANYC
members.
Property and Casualty Insurance: Traditional insurance
coverage is available for BIANYC members on commercial auto, inland
marine, tools & equipment and property.
Workers’ compensation: In order to meet their insurance
needs, the members founded the Builders Self-Insurance Trust.
Although all insurance programs require active membership, this
unique program offering Workers’ Compensation was designed for
members and is owned by participating members.
Home Warranty Program-Insurance Backed: If you build new
homes and are a member, you are eligible to participate in this
discounted insurance-backed Home Warranty Program through 2-10 Home
Buyer Warranty. Packages are available with coverage up to 10 years.
Health Insurance: Members are offered a wide variety of
health plan coverage, including HMO, PPO, Health Savings accounts
and indemnity. The members insurance plan offers you your choice of
coverage along with unique tax saving and added health related
financial management services.
Long Term Care: We understand that financial security is a
priority for you and your family. Your medical and disability
insurance are excellent examples of ways to protect your family
today and into the future. However, these types of insurance do not
cover the cost of Long-Term Care services. Without Long-Term Care
insurance, your current savings and retirement plan could be at
risk. As a BIANYC member, you are eligible for a Multi-Life discount
on Long-Term Care insurance.
Payroll: A streamlined payroll process is key to success of
any business. Members can save 15% off payroll processing and
selected human resource services set up fees.
Vehicle Discount: As a member, you are eligible to receive a
manufacturer’s discount on certain vehicles, including cars and
trucks.
Other Discounts: Members are eligible for discounted office
supplies, overnight shipping, computer equipment and much more
through the Member Advantage program.
RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS
BIANYC members have access to both state and national industry
research studies pertaining to all aspects of building construction.
Members also may participate in educational programs for building
industry professionals and may even qualify for scholarships or
financial assistance to enable them to meet the expenses of the
educational opportunity.
Energy Star® Labeled Homes Program: We are partnered with the
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
in the New York Energy Star Labeled Program for new construction and
the Home Performance with Energy Star® Program for remodelers. The
Labeled Homes Program provides incentives to qualified builders to
produce homes that are more energy efficient and provide greater
comfort, durability and value. The Home Performance Program provides
incentives to certified remodelers to upgrade homes to include high
efficiency heating, air conditioning, insulation, windows, doors,
lighting and appliances providing greater comfort, durability and
value.
Training Programs: Under the Energy Star® Labeled Homes
Program, your state association administers training programs for
qualified builders throughout New York State on the new, New York
State Energy Conservation Code and on Building Sciences designed to
promote and enhance better building practices.
Additionally, you may participate in other professional development
and leadership training opportunities. Your state association is
licensed through the National Association of Home Builders
University of Housing and offers the following:
- Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR)
- Certified Graduate Builder (CGB)
- Certified Graduate Associate (CGA)
- Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS)
- Graduate Master Builder (GMB)
- Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR)
- Registered in Apartment Management (RAM)
- Certified Sales Professional (CSP)
Scholarship Program: The William Morehouse Scholarship
Program awards money to qualified students who are pursuing a one,
two or four-year college program in residential building or related
fields in New York State. The state association matches funds
provided by BIANYC enabling qualified candidates to meet the
expenses of educational opportunities.
Research: BIANYC along with the state and national
associations, continually seek and undertake new research projects
in partnership with other educational and governmental
organizations. Current projects include the People, Parks and Public
Transportation Study regarding development of the North Shore of
Staten Island and the 421b study showing the benefits of the New
York City tax abatement law.
Charitable Works: BIANYC, NYSBA and NAHB all have programs
that give back to the community. Whether through direct pro bono
involvement in projects or through tax-deductible gift giving, we
focus on projects that better the quality of life in our community.
